Castoff

Castoff

The anchor lies on
the beach, unattached.
No worries of broken chains
or boats set adrift.
Nothing to hold on to.
It digs into the sand
where it was thrown,
never to be dropped again.

As You Leave

As You Leave

I watch as you leave,
wishing you could stay.
I thought we'd have more time,
but the choice isn't mine.
You fade from view as the
distance between us grows.
I cling to my perch,
not ready to let go.

Meanings

Meanings

What does the
butterfly mean to me?
Beauty--an identity composed
of colors and shapes.
Purpose--the pollinator whose
labor truly bears fruit.
Spirits--lost loved ones
stopping by.

Have I seen all
there is to see?
Would you see
this being differently?
If I knew that, would it
make a difference to me.

Frozen

Frozen

The leaf feels free
detached from the tree.
Catches a ride
on  the wind.
Skids along the streets
then lands in a lake,
floats with the ducks
and the geese.
When the air turns cold,
the birds escape.
The leaf freezes in place,
held captive until the thaw.

Togetherness

Togetherness

What brings us together?
Having the same roots?
Finding common ground?
Weathering the storms?
Sharing time in the sun?

Melting Point

Walk onto the ice.
All appears smooth and solid.
See the sun sparkle.

Snow

Snow

Snow falls silently.
Doesn't tap on the roof
or let us hear the rhythm
of how hard it comes down.
Snow makes us walk
to the window and watch.
Wants us to see it
fresh and bright,
glistening in the light
so we will remember its
beauty as we clear it away.
