Let the Tears Fall

Let the Tears Fall

I cried when
I was a child
until I decided
I would not
cry anymore.
But, the things
I should have
cried about
stayed with me
until, as an adult,
I learned it was best
to let the tears fall.

I Need the Rain

I Need the Rain

I want
the sky,
blue and clear.
I want
the air
to warm me.
I want
the sun
to burn bright.

Then,

I need
the clouds
to move in.
I need
the air
to cool down.
I need
the rain
to sustain me.

An Apology to Flies

An Apology to Flies

I have always
thought of you
as picnic-crashers
and nuisances.
When I saw
two of you
sitting on my
daylily, I
wondered what
brought you there.
Did you serve
a purpose?
I didn't know
so I did
some research
and found out
that you are
pollinators
for some flowers.
I am sorry
I misjudged you.
Next time I
see you at
a picnic,
maybe we can
split a hotdog.

Somewhere to Call Home

Somewhere to Call Home

The bud is
cut off from
the plant.
Dropped in
a place it has
never known.
Frightened and
on its own.
Wondering if
it will ever find
 somewhere
to call home.

Coreopsis

Coreopsis

My coreopsis
looks the same
from day-to-day.
Its fine leaves
stay green, don't
wilt in the heat.
The plant isn't picky
about the amount of
water it receives,
survives both
downpours
and droughts.
It doesn't react
to what's going
on around it.
I want to be
a coreopsis.

Wingspan

Wingspan

Why do geese
spread their wings
as they step out
of the water?
Does it give them
a little lift?
Do they seek
some sun?
Or, are they
excited to
embrace the air
simply because
it is there?

Watch Your Step

Watch Your Step

It's so easy to slip.
You might fall
back and get wet.
But, you could
hit your head, need
time to recover. So,
watch your step.
I won't be there
to catch you anymore.

Profile

Profile

I see a side of you.
It shows me your colors
and some of your lines.
It gives me a sense of
your depth and your reach.
I come to know a
part of you but
not all of you.
For that, I must
consider all sides.
