Some Have Been Lost

Some Have Been Lost

We shared time together.
With some it was long,
with others too short.
We stood in sun and storm,
cold and warm, dark and light.
Then, they dropped out of sight
and left a space that remains
every day and every night.

When the Leaves Are Gone

When the Leaves are Gone

When the leaves are gone,
I miss their color and
the sound they make in a breeze.

But, I take note of the twists
and turns of the branches
and how they look against a blue sky.

I see beyond the places where
the leaves used to be and am surprised
by all that opens up before me.

Headwork

Headwork

I can put my
head down to rest.
Take some time to
think about what's next.
Try to put events
into context.

I can't put my
head down and hide.
Ignore the actions
I can't abide.
Give up the fight
to turn the tide.

The Rock Stands

The Rock Stands

The rock stands
in dark and light,
when storms rage
or peace reigns.
The surface gets
scratched and
sometimes cracks.
Pieces crumble
and fall away.
And so, it changes
everyday, but still
the rock stands.

Fishing

Fishing

How long did you fish
before Mother Nature
took your line?

Did she give you time
to enjoy the sun
and the breeze?

Did she allow a
catch or two before
you were through?

Did you forget about
the tree until your line
wrapped around the leaves?

How long did you fish
before Mother Nature
said, "Enough?"
