Green Turns Gold

Green Turns Gold

The green leaves work quietly,
day-after-day, for most of the year.
Only when they turn gold

Hard Rain

Hard Rain
.
Sounds like a frenzied drum solo.
Makes the flowers look like
they have been shellacked.
Drops from the tree leaves
as though the storm has come back.
Pools on the ground and
takes time to sink in.

Stand Up

Stand Up

The petal stands up straight.
Perhaps the wind has given it
a lift and it will fall back down
when the breeze eases.
It could be signaling to the
bees or providing shade for
the center of the flower.
Or, maybe, just maybe, it has
decided that the time has come
for it to stand up for itself.

On the Fly

On the Fly

The butterfly looks for a space,
a comfortable resting place.
A leaf catches its eye.
The sedum appendage stays straight,
not bothered by the extra weight.
Support found on the fly.

This is a French form called rime couee.

A Peaceful Place

A Peaceful Place

There is a place where I find peace.
It's filled with trees and ducks and geese.

Some days, a heron will stop by.
I see it walk and fish and fly.

I look for what is on display
and watch the lake reflect the day.
