Winter Thaw

Winter Thaw

The warmth feels good.
The duck could tell
it should beware.
Must take care. Stop
somewhere that the ice is firm or drop.

This is a Burmese form called ya-du.  My next post will be October 22.

October

October

I see the blooms.
It could be June.
Instead, the first
string of fall
temperatures arrive.
Numbers we haven't seen
since before the phlox
started to bloom,
since before this year
had a June.
Now, there is a chill again.
We and the flowers have
fallen into October.

The pinks and greens have turned brown.
The graceful movements have become stiff.
During winter, the birds still stop by
to seek nourishment.
