Wait for the Sun
I'm stuck in the mud
while I wait for
the sun to set me free.
The rain's been hard.
The rain's been long.
It keeps the days dark
as though they were nights.
But, I believe the light
will break through and
the mud will wash off.
So, I keep standing
while I wait for
the sun to set me free.
Look Closely
Look closely at all
there is to see.
Not the field, but
each blade of grass
and the way it stands.
Not the flower, but
each of its petals
and how it unfolds.
Not the butterfly, but
its wings and how
the two sides differ.
Look closely, as though this
will be your only opportunity.

Overwhelmed By It All
Sometimes, I feel
overwhelmed by it all.
Darkness closing in.
Resistance from
every direction.
But, I keep
paddling along
until the light
comes into sight.
No Message
No message in
the clouds today.
No angels on high
or hearts in the sky.
No faces to note,
or animals that float.
Nothing but a
bunch of fluff.
Darkness Invades
Morning sun
makes everything bright.
All is in order.
Afternoon shadows appear.
Darkness invades the space.
Everything turns upside down.
Give It Time
Don't let the rough water
carry you off course.
Rise above it.
Give it time
to calm down,
then dive back in.
The world is
wide open to you.
Cast your eyes
in all directions.
You learn little by little
with me by you side.
Before you know it,
you go out on your own.
Of Course
The stream sits
out in the open.
Its course is
easy to follow.
The stream turns
toward the woods.
Obscured by trees,
its endpoint
can't be seen.
A New Twist
I look for a new twist.
A wish that might
now be granted.
A second chance
that I thought
wouldn't come.
A new creation that
will be a stretch, yet
I'll make it happen.
