Detached
The single feather
of a blue jay
lies in the grass.
It appears whole
as though it was
let go by the bird
not torn from it.
Did the jay note
its absence?
Miss it the first
time he flew
without it?
Accept the loss
as part of the
natural order
and send it off
with the dip
of a wing?
