Wonderland

Wonderland

I used to dream
of wonderland.
It was always
far away.

Then, I stopped to
watch the sunrise,
and later, the sunset.
I noticed the bees
and the butterflies
sharing the flowers.
I found a heron in
the park and followed
as it took a walk.

I learned that wonder-
land isn't one place.
I create it with what
I take the time to see
in a given space.

May you enjoy the wonders of the holidays wherever you are and however you celebrate. Thank you for stopping by, This is my last post of 2019. The next post will be January 7, 2020.

Sowing Cycle

Sowing Cycle

Little by little, the seeds go.
They catch the wind and fly away.
They find another place to stay.
They take root and begin to grow.

As time goes on, they start to show
the kind of care the plants will need.
They have caretakers who take heed.
The stems become sturdy and tall.
Flowers bloom, shrivel and then fall.
Pods break open and seeds are freed.

This poem is written in the Spanish form espinela.

The Water Rocks Me

The Water Rocks Me

When it's rolling
in to shore,
the water rocks me.

When it forms waves
that curl and foam,
the water rocks me.

When it is still
a little choppy,
the water rocks me.

Even when it looks
as smooth as glass,
the water rocks me.

Alone in a Bright Blue Sky

Alone in a Bright Blue Sky

I saw a cloud
alone in a
bright blue sky.
I wondered how

it would make use
of all the space in
which it could  move.
As I watched,

the cloud appeared
to hover over
a group of trees.
I thought I saw

it reach out to
the tallest, even
though it had no
chance to touch it.
