Stand Together

Stand Together

We stand together
by standing apart.
We recognize others
by covering our faces.
We lift each other up
by flattening the curve.

Morning Gold

Morning Gold

A touch of gold.
Colors unfold
in early light.
Beauty untold.

This poem is an Irish quatrain called trian rannaigechta moire.

Trickle Down Effect

Trickle Down Effect

Rain falls from the sky.
Rests upon the leaves awhile
then trickles down to the soil.

Beauty Surrounds Me

Beauty Surrounds Me

Beauty surrounds me.
Wraps itself around me.
I hold it in my heart
to keep it safe.

Rough Water

Rough Water

Rough water
rocks the boat.
Slaps its sides.
Tries to make
it capsize.

The boat leans.
Takes the hits.
Lets them slide.
Stays upright
the whole ride.

What form is this poem? I don't know because it formed as I was writing it. I am going to borrow a musical term and name it call and response. Here are the rules, which we all know are made to be broken:

  • Minimum of two stanzas. You may string groups of two together. The second stanza in each group responds to the first. In this case, the first stanza contains actions and the second, the reactions. Using questions and answers would be another option.
  • Each stanza has the same number of lines.
  • Each line has the same number of syllables.
I would love for you to share poems or share what you write about. Most of all, have fun with it.

In the Dark

In the Dark

I find myself in the dark.
Can't recognize the landmarks.

I come upon something bright
that alleviates my fright.

This is my attempt at the Welsh form cywydd deuair hirion.

I Am Here

I Am Here

I am here.
Sometimes,
 I go there.
That could be
anywhere.

I come back here.
Someday, I will
stay away and
wind up who
knows where.

The prompt for this poem is "where you are."

The Comfort of the Shade

The Comfort of the Shade

Seek the comfort of the shade.
Coolness surrounds, heat moves out.
Relief is temporary
but, you gain the strength to go another bout.

This poem is a Spanish quatrain called endecha.

Search the Clouds

Search the Clouds

Early in the morning,
a lone gull takes flight.
It isn't leaving town or
rushing to catch up
with the crowd.
Instead, it heads
straight for the clouds,
in search of a silver lining.
