Fragments
float by.
Pieces of what
they used to be.
They bring back memories
because I know their history.
Fragments
float by.
Pieces of what
they used to be.
They bring back memories
because I know their history.
Seeds Scatter
One falls near the plant.
I hope it grows there.
Others ride the wind out of the yard.
Their destination is unknown.
Some hold on to the only home they've had.
The next gust makes them scatter.
Gray clouds move in.
The lake darkens.
I am distressed that
the sun is hidden.
Relief comes when it appears
enough to add light to the dark.
Set your Sights
on what you want.
Look with care.
Make sure you see
what is really there.
All the steps you
need to take.
Then, take the first one.
Where I Am
I didn't go as far
as I had planned.
I thought the wind
would be strong.
I was wrong.
Time to let go
of the plan
and grow where I am.
A Change of Seasons
One day in September,
day and night equalize.
It is official!
We say goodbye to summer.
Fall has arrived.
The Break
Pods provide protection.
Seeds settle inside.
The break takes place.
Wind whisks seeds away.
Pods persevere.
Signals of Fall
Some leaves turn red.
They do not stop.
Some leaves turn yellow.
They do not slow down.
The leaves turn because
the green must go.
I am Tired
of flying everywhere.
of chasing others.
of others chasing me.
of the weight of
my responsibilities.
I am so tired that
I can barely lift my wings.
A Coot in the
I thought I saw a different
kind of duck in the lake.
Took it's picture,
but it was far away.
Fortunately, it stayed a few days.
I got a better picture,
and identified it as a coot.
It swam alone.
It was a bold coot,
but I couldn't tell
if it was an old coot.
If the Clouds had Eyes
they would take in nature's beauty.
Birds fly high and dip their wings.
Flowers wave in the wind.
The land, the sea and the sky hypnotize.
Then, nature's brutal side appears.
Floods submerge the lands.
Tornados take down towns.
Fires burn the forests.
If the clouds had eyes, they would cry.
Life Can Be Slippery
I am moving through
the day smoothly.
But, I don't see the wet spot.
Suddenly, I fall.
All I hold scatters.
Perhaps, some shatters.
I get back up.
Gather all I can
and begin to move again.
Shelter from the Sun
Stand in the shade.
Keep cool that way.
Don't be afraid
of the dark.
You can still
see the light.
A Great Planter
The wind is a great planter.
Its nursery is unlimited.
Tree leaves let me know
when a shipment has been delivered.
How many flowers will this batch yield?
Have they landed in a garden bed,
or will I have to move them
out of the grass?
Don't miss what is
right in front of you.
Take in the colors.
Which ones attract you?
Which ones repel you?
Take in the lives.
Which ones are the same?
Which ones are different?
Take in all you can.
Will you come back again, or
will this be your only visit?
Month after month
Week after week
Lightning flashes.
Thunder claps.
Trees fall.
Water rises.
Month after month
Week after week
A stream of storms
like I've never seen.
Silent Communication
How ya doin'?
Shrug
What's new?
Shrug
Where ya been?
Shrug
You OK?
Shrug
Unlike the red-
winged blackbird,
I can't fly away.
Damage
The damage is done.
You still stand.
The scars will last,
and you will, too.
Bubble Up
Float above the water.
Go as far as you can.
Whether you reach
the other side
or pop beneath the branches,
I'll remember that I saw you
float above the water.
Stages
Buds
Peace
I wish you peace everyday.
But, I know life doesn't work that way.
So, on the days when peace is gone,
I wish that it returns anon.
