By Design
The goose rises and
spreads its wings.
The feathers grow
in many rows
and different lengths.
They make a pattern
by design.
The sight of it
gives me a lift.

Two Sides
The tops of the
butterfly's wings
are rich in color.
Hold bold designs
that grab our attention.
But, the wings have
another side.
Subtle colors,
muted markings
yield a lighter beauty.
Differences are a natural
part of the whole.

The Rhythm of the Wings
The butterfly sits
but flaps its wings.

I focus on the rhythm.
open, close Open? No,
just a pump fake.
Open? Now! close, open
Are you dancing in place?
I don't know, but I
could watch you all day.

Why do geese

The Sunbather
The Sunbather
On a cool March day,
remnants of winter
float in the water.
Geese surround the lake.
Some jump in and
swim despite the chill.
Others pick a meal
out of grass.
One stands on land,
opens a wing and
soaks up the sun.
