Some rocks sit
above the rest.
They were carried up
and set in place.
Their elevated position
is unstable.
The downward roll
is only a bump away.

I am a poet and photographer who likes sports, jazz and art inspired by other art. I served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the early 1970's and was assigned to the Computer Sciences School in Quantico, VA. I have published a chapbook of grief poems, I Keep You with Me. Sitting on a Stone
Sitting on a stone
feeling the heat.
The butterfly travels alone.
Does it have a schedule?
How far has it flown?
It can't tell me.
Maybe, it just roams.
Stops when it is beat
and sits on a stone.

Stone Wear
Stone Wear
When I get a
stone in my shoe,
it hurts so much
I have to stop.
It feels like a rock
that must be
shredding my sock.
Imagine my shock
when I turn my
shoe over and out
drops a fragment
that I can barely see.
How could such pain come
from something this size?
Because it injures me
stride after stride.

Casting Stones
When a stone

makes others defensive.
When a stone

drives us farther apart.
When a stone

creates consequences
but not solutions.
