Stop by the Water

Stop by the Water

I stop by the water.

Sit down to rest.

Study the reflections.

I like the wigglers the best.

Acknowledge the swimmers and flyers

as they come and go.

When I stop by the water,

I feel right at home.

The Search

The Search

Head down, eyes focused

on every inch you cover.

I hope what you're looking for

is worth all you miss

by not giving your head a lift.

Sitting on a Stone

Sitting on a Stone

Sitting on a stone

feeling the heat.

The butterfly travels alone.

Does it have a schedule?

How far has it flown?

It can't tell me.

Maybe, it just roams.

Stops when it is beat

and sits on a stone.

This is a form called magic nine.

A Few Steps

A Few Steps

You may only need

a few steps.

Where you stop may

be a place to rest.

Don't diminish the

value of this test.

You stepped up

and did your best.

Now, you can focus

on what's next.

All It Takes

All It Takes

A small space
is all it takes.
Enough room
to stretch out.
Let the thoughts
float through
your mind
without a worry
about the time.

Rest Stop

Rest Stop

The butterfly stops-flowers attract visitors.
Rest is important-blossoms are comfortable.
Wings flap in rhythm-the petals wave in the wind.
The journey will continue-honey bees buzz as they land.

I Take My Time

I Take My Time

I take my time.
I make my way.
Stop atop a
sun-warmed rock.

I stay in touch
with what's around.
Birds, fish,
humans, hounds

 If I think a
threat is near,
I hop in the water
and steer clear.

On the Fly

On the Fly

The butterfly looks for a space,
a comfortable resting place.
A leaf catches its eye.
The sedum appendage stays straight,
not bothered by the extra weight.
Support found on the fly.

This is a French form called rime couee.

Headwork

Headwork

I can put my
head down to rest.
Take some time to
think about what's next.
Try to put events
into context.

I can't put my
head down and hide.
Ignore the actions
I can't abide.
Give up the fight
to turn the tide.

Upside-Down World

Upside-Down World

The butterfly hangs
under the leaf,
rests even though
its world appears
to be upside down.
I wish I could
do the same.

Perched

Perched

The bird is perched
high in the tree.
Feels the wind
but doesn't have
to fight it.
Looks at the view
in stillness instead
of in motion.
Sees with
newfound clarity.
