Dark Days

 Dark Days

Dark days display

different depictions.

Details disappear.

Despite dimness,

displays don't disappoint.

This poem is a tautogram.

Swimming in the Darkness

Swimming in the Darkness

Swimming in the darkness.

Barely stay afloat.

A spot of light

comes into view,

but just as fast it goes.

Swimming in the darkness.

Start to take some strokes.

Since I've seen the light,

I know where I'll try to go.

Overwhelmed By It All

Overwhelmed By It All

Sometimes, I feel
overwhelmed by it all.
Darkness closing in.
Resistance from
every direction.
But, I keep
paddling along
until the light
comes into sight.

Darkness Invades

Darkness Invades

Morning sun
makes everything bright.
All is in order.

Afternoon shadows appear.
Darkness invades the space.
Everything turns upside down.

New Heights

New Heights

I won't turn my back
and ignore you.
I want to talk
 face-to-face.
The conversation
won't be light, but
out of the darkness
may come something
that helps us
reach new heights.

The Sun Finds Me

 The Sun Finds Me

The sun finds me
even during dark times.
It is too bright at first sight
so I shield my eyes.
They adjust to the light.
I turn my back,
not ready to face it,
but its warmth
always comes through.

Light Breaks Through

Light Breaks Through

Light breaks through
the darkness.
Arrives with a promptness.
The day begins anew.

I bid the sun adieu.
Hope night won't be endless.
Light breaks through
the darkness.

When I can't escape the blues
or I feel a little restless,
I wait in the stillness
and look for the first clue.
Light breaks through
the darkness.

This poem is a French form called rondel supreme.

Clouds Congregate

Clouds Congregate

Clouds congregate
at sunset.
Bask in the last
light of day.
Huddle as darkness
overtakes them.

The Blue Comes Through

The Blue Comes Through

The clouds mask the sky.
Eclipse all brightness.
Cover the sun and the moon.
Don't allow the North Star to
help you figure out where you are.
The gray stays day after day.
Then, one day, when it parts,
the blue begins to come through.

Cloud Cover

Cloud Cover

The cloud cover
is vast today.
Gray billows everywhere,
not a speck of blue.
The sun does not
play hide and seek.
It stays undercover.
The first blast of cold
air carries the fear
that the brightness
will never return.
I shudder to shake
off that feeling and
hold on to my belief
in the light.

Before Sunrise

Before Sunrise

Before sunrise,
The darkness
is blinding.

Before sunrise,
the quiet
is too loud.

Before sunrise,
I lie awake,
destined to start
another day
before sunrise.

When you wake up before the alarm goes off, do you fight to go back to sleep or give in and get up?

Night Flight

Night Flight

Outside the window
Stark darkness
Absence of illumination
No moon
No stars
No lights
Is anything out there?
Suddenly, in the
upper left-hand corner,
a rhythmic flash appears
that seems to say
wing, wing, wing.

Do you like to fly at night and glide through the darkness or do you prefer to be surrounded by blue sky?
