Unspoken

Unspoken

The words that remain unspoken
are powerful, not just token.
They play in the mind.
You can feel them grind,
left behind,
unbroken.

This poem is written in a Welsh form called a Clogyrnach.

The Descent

The Descent

Come down
through the clouds,
encased in hazy white.

The ride may shake you,
shift you from side-to-side,
drop you until you rise.

When you emerge from
the vapory cocoon, you
will see the world
as you know it
awaiting your return.

The Last Bloom

The Last Bloom

A tiny burst of yellow
stands out against a
green background.
To look at the
lone bloom, one
might think it
flourishes on
a summer day.
Instead, it is
challenged by a
fall chill, on the brink
of being caught
in a hard freeze, looking
strong when it is
most vulnerable.

The Sunbather

The Sunbather

On a cool March day,
remnants of winter
float in the water.
Geese surround the lake.
Some jump in and
swim despite the chill.
Others pick a meal
out of  grass.
One stands on land,
opens a wing and
soaks up the sun.

On the Edge

On the Edge

Take the risk.
Trust your balance.
Sometimes you have to
get close to  the edge
to capture the beauty.

Heart-to-Heart

Heart-to-Heart

We grew together.
Stood side-by-side
in sun and storm.
Shared warmth and chill.
Relished the
light breeze and
feared the strong wind.

The seasons changed.

Now, I have lost my color,
am stripped down to my core.
Still, I have the strength
to lean in and kiss you,
one more time, heart-to-heart.

The Fall

The Fall

The changes creep in.
The sameness turns
to difference.
Solid green becomes
red, yellow and orange.
The threads of
attachment break
and the leaves fall.
The trees are quieted,
their rustle silenced
until spring.

Beaming

Beaming

The light leaves
the shelter of its house
and sweeps the sea,
scans the surface,
shines on the essentials.
The rocks sit to starboard.
The height of the waves increases.
Land is in sight.
The ships head toward
the path of safe passage
and in a flash,
the light is gone.
