Gifts of Nature

An eagle sitting in a tree

A butterfly and a flower

Fall colors in the trees and reflected on the lake

These are a few of the gifts nature gave to me this year. As always, the time you spend on the blog is a great gift. Thank you. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. The next post will be January 4, 2022.

Mixed Media

Mixed Media

Fallen branches self-curate.
The lake and sun
collaborate to create
a background of
clouds and sky.
The exhibition of
mixed media is
a natural.

A Limited Time

A Limited Time

A lack of leaves
allows longer sightlines.
Lovely land, usually blocked,
comes to light.
Look and linger.
The display lasts
for a limited time.

When the Leaves Return

When the Leaves Return

The tree no longer conceals me.
I cannot hide until spring,
when the leaves return.
Then, I can sing undercover.
Be heard but hardly seen.

A Light Touch

A Light Touch

Dark water
whipped up by
the wind
rocks all that
risks a ride
upon it today.
The sun scatters
bright spots
atop the waves.
Even a little light
clarifies the course.

Not So Slow

 Not So Slow

They all think I'm slow.
Don't know how fast I can go.

See me take a break.
Sit at the end of the lake.

I feel the waves roll.
Nourish my soul.

When it's time to move.
I'll be in my groove.

By Design

By Design

The goose rises and
spreads its wings.
The feathers grow
in many rows
and different lengths.
They make a pattern
by design.
The sight of it
gives me a lift.

What Comes into View

What Comes into View

I'm grateful for
what comes into view.
Charmed when it's more
beautiful than I could picture.
Focus on it quickly because
it will be gone in a snap.

Happy Thanksgiving!  Thank you for letting me share some of what comes into view with you.

Reflections on the Pier

Reflections on the Pier

I like to walk on the pier.
It places me a few feet from shore.
Gives me a clear view of the lake.
I am not in the water,
but I'm as close as I can get.

Slow to Change

Slow to Change

A cluster of leaves
hangs on the tree.
Most of its members
are wrapped in
their fall coats,
but others still display
patches of green.
There always are some
that are slow to change.

The Water's Colors

The Water's Colors

The art of the sun
comes to light.
The lake is filled
with the hues of trees,
set off by a touch of sky.
A reflection of autumn
in the water's colors.

Already Reached

Already Reached

The cloud spreads itself thin.
Stretches in all directions.
What do you reach for
when you've already
reached the sky?

Behind You

Behind You

I am behind you.
Go out and find you.
Release that which confines you.
Take all the time you
need to define you.
When others malign you,
I am behind you.

Above the Crowd

Above the Crowd

One leaf stands
above the crowd.
It is colorful
and easily seen.
Grabs the sunlight
and catches the wind.
It also will be
the first to fall.

My Window on Nature

My Window on Nature

A few blocks away,
the park awaits.
What will greet me?
A class for goslings
on diving for food?
A fishing contest between
a heron and humans?
A red-winged blackbird
singing in a tree?
Amid the trappings
of the city, I have found
my window on nature.

Faces

Faces

I see faces in
places no faces exist.
Up in the clouds,
down in the water,
in between on the trees.
The more I look,
the more I see.
The less I know
what's facing me.

Water Under the Bridge

 Water Under the Bridge

The water is still
under the bridge.
Sometimes, it sits
in shadows.
Other times, it sparkles
in the sun.
As long as the bridge
is in good repair,
I can cross without
fear of falling in.

Brightness Returns

 Brightness Returns

Each day is made up
of light and dark.
I think I know when
each will occur.
Then, a storm moves in
and the light is dimmed.
How long will it stay that way?
I'm uncomfortable with the
uncertainty but, so far,
brightness has always returned.
