New Connections

 New Connections

Reflections bring on recollections.

Give me directions for

making corrections.

My selections may lead

to new connections.

Life Unfolds

Life Unfolds

Life unfolds before us.

A bud grows,

then the petals show.

They unwind one at a time,

and soon are in full bloom.

Broken by the Storm

Broken by the Storm

A tree is down.
Broken by the storm.
It withstood the wind before.
This time, the force was too strong.

Others stand near
the one that was lost.
Their branches still wave
and continue to provide shade.

But, another storm is in the forecast.

A New Twist

A New Twist

I look for a new twist.
A wish that might
now be granted.
A second chance
that I thought
wouldn't come.
A new creation that
will be a stretch, yet
I'll make it happen.

Away from Shore

Away from Shore

The duck swims
away from shore.
Takes a look back.
No others follow.
The journey is his
alone.

A Limited Time

A Limited Time

A lack of leaves
allows longer sightlines.
Lovely land, usually blocked,
comes to light.
Look and linger.
The display lasts
for a limited time.

Greet Spring

Greet Spring

High above
On the ground
Leaves sprout
Flowers open

Feel warmth
Hear songs
See changes
Greet spring

Green Turns Gold

Green Turns Gold

The green leaves work quietly,
day-after-day, for most of the year.
Only when they turn gold
do the leaves gain the attention
of the masses, who fawn over
them for their beauty but not
their contributions.

The Rock Stands

The Rock Stands

The rock stands
in dark and light,
when storms rage
or peace reigns.
The surface gets
scratched and
sometimes cracks.
Pieces crumble
and fall away.
And so, it changes
everyday, but still
the rock stands.

The Answer

The Answer

The answer
to the question,
"Who are we?"
floats like a
watery reflection.

Sometimes solid,
other times incomplete
or obscured
by the glare.

Always fragile,
it dissipates
with the slightest
movement of the sun.

Breakthrough

Breakthrough

Keep watch.
You will see signs.
A spot of light shows
on the horizon.
Colors come and go,
intensify or lighten.
The revelation may
be slow or fast,
be gone in seconds
or last and last.
Be ready.
You may sense
the breakthrough,
but it comes in
its own time.

Re-Memories

Re-Memories

Over time, we re-memory.
Images unsharpen.
Blues and yellows
(once distinct)
blend into greens.
The details are of
Fourth of Labor Day
or ThanksChristmas.
Names sit back with
no fear of being called on.
Maybe next time.
After all, there are
no lasting re-memories.

Do you think are memories change over the years?

Turn the Corner

Turn the Corner

Face the wall.
You have no room
to move straight ahead.
You can stay
where you are. You're
comfortable here.
Or, you could go
in a different direction.
Turn the corner and
embrace the possibilities.

What choice would you make?

Hindsight

Hindsight

If I had known
what I didn't
would I have done
something different?
Would I have done
what I couldn't or
thought I shouldn't?
Would I have
gone in another direction?
North instead of South?
East instead of West?
Would all the rest
have changed
if I had known?
