Practice Vigilance
The path looks clear
from here to there.
The distance isn't long.
The journey seems easy,
but don't forget
that storms may form.

Which Direction?
We look in the same direction.
Where is your focus?
Do we make the same connection?
Are we drawn to what we see?
Will we make a move?
Take a chance on what's new
or stay within our comfort zones?
Keep Your Head Up
It's a new day.
There's no telling
what might come your way.
behind the next door.
Be open to it.
Your World
Look around.
This is your world.
Walk through the grass.
Take a taste test.
Go into the water.
You already know
how to swim and dive.
It will take a little time,
but soon you will fly.
A Second
The bird sits on a branch.
Everything is in focus.
I press the shutter button.
The bird is in flight.
It only takes a second
for the picture to change.
Natural Percussionist
Rat-a-tat-tat
Rat-a-tat-tat
The woodpecker taps out
its theme song.
The natural percussionist
works to its own beat.
You Can
What are you waiting for?
Do you expect to get carried away?
Make a move.
The path may be rocky,
but others have taken it.
You can too!
Not Clear
The view is not clear.
There is an obstruction.
The details are obscured.
Will I ever see the whole picture again?
Find a Perch
A place to sit.
If it has a little height,
the view will be better.
Take in all you can.
You'll see that beauty resides
right before your eyes.
Stillness is Important
The heron picks a place.
Looks at a particular space.
Stands still.
Makes a slow turn of the head.
Stands still.
Stretches its neck.
Stands still.
Bends down then straightens up.
Stands still.
One quick strike ends the stillness.
The Sun and the
They collaborate!
The lake is a pseudo-canvas.
The sun lays down a blue sky.
Adds a layer of white clouds.
Ends with a group of trees.
The lake adds a few wiggles.
Each scene is available for a limited time.
But, new ones appear day-to-day.
Watch Yourself Fly
You had the
courage to start.
Put in the work.
Survive the storms.
Now, it's time to
watch yourself fly.
Writing Prompts
My photographs are prompts.
Give me a place to start.
What words come to mind?
Do they take me back in time?
Is the scene new or
something I've been through?
Will you see the connection or
have I gone to a place only I can inhabit?
Hurry Up
I'm striking a nice pose.
Hurry up!
I have food to find.
Hurry up!
Don't waste my time.
Taking my picture
should be a snap.
This is a persona poem.
Abandoned Bobbers
get caught up in their work.
Hang out on their own,
but aren't really alone.
They remain on display
for the people who walk by each day.
Grow Down
Branches can grow down.
Have leaves that flourish.
Still create a breeze.
Provide rest stops for birds.
Let squirrels run around.
Thrive at their own level.
If The Sun Has The Blues
It will dim its light.
Let the gray clouds
surround it.
Start to set knowing
it will rise tomorrow.

Winter Art
There are breaks in the frozen lake.
They create various shapes.
Some long lines that branch out.
Some pencil thin ones that are hard to see.
They reconfigure throughout the days
until they finally melt away.
