Add Light

 Add Light

Gray clouds move in.
The lake darkens.
I am distressed that
the sun is hidden.
Relief comes when it appears
enough to add light to the dark.

Where I Am

Where I Am

I didn't go as far

as I had planned.

I thought the wind

would be strong.

I was wrong.

Time to let go

of the plan

and grow where I am.

Life Can Be Slippery

Life Can Be Slippery

I am moving through

the day smoothly.

But, I don't see the wet spot.

Suddenly, I fall.

All I hold scatters.

Perhaps, some shatters.

I get back up.

Gather all I can

and begin to move again.

The Correct Turn

The Correct Turn

Should I make a right turn

or should I make a left turn?

If I choose the wrong turn,

I'll recover with a u-turn.

Keep Your Head Up

Keep Your Head Up

It's a new day.

There's no telling

what might come your way.

Opportunity may wait

behind the next door.

Be open to it.

Lost and Found

Lost and Found

A plant, thought to have

died last summer,

sprouts up from the ground.

Soon, it begins to bloom.

The gardener celebrates its return

while dreading the impending heat wave.

Different Paths

Different Paths

There are many paths.

Some end after a few steps.

Others let you roam before

they force you to backtrack.

Leave you concerned about

which way to turn.

Don't give up.

Try different paths until

you navigate the maze.

Water Under the Bridge

 Water Under the Bridge

The water is still
under the bridge.
Sometimes, it sits
in shadows.
Other times, it sparkles
in the sun.
As long as the bridge
is in good repair,
I can cross without
fear of falling in.

Cushion the Blow

Cushion the Blow

When I fall,
others cushion the blow.
Sit with me until
I get my bearings.
They have fallen before
so they know it takes time
to get back up.

Natural Surprises

Natural Surprises

I walk the same path.
Watch the same trees.
The surroundings are all
too familiar to me.
When I think I've seen
all there is to see,
Mother Nature surprises me.

Keep Moving Forward

Keep Moving Forward

Walk or fly.
Take small steps
or long glides.
You might slip,
hit a headwind.
Slowdown or take
a break then
keep moving forward.

Keep Going

Keep Going

When you are in too deep,
do what you can to stay afloat.

Your next steps may be slippery,
so don't lose your footing.

Keep going until you
reach solid ground.

Shattering

Shattering

When all is
shattering around you,
watch as the
sun breaks through.

Through the Storm

Through the Storm

I have been
through the storm.
I picked up
some debris
and lost some
parts of me.
I have been
tossed around,
but still, I
will go on.

Growth

Growth

The branches grow
singularly and straight
or wind and entwine.
They get cut
then lengthen again.
Despite setbacks and scars,
they continue to increase in size.
Growth is the work of a lifetime.

I Left the Sun Behind

I Left the Sun Behind

I left the sun behind
to go into the clouds.

It was a bumpy ride,
murky on all sides.

The view before me blurred.
Still, I continued to rise.

Headwind

Headwind

I will face the wind.
Feel its strength as
it burns my skin.
Stagger and sway,
ready to fall
from it some days.
Recoup, confront its power.
Push against it
hour after hour.
Never give in
to the force
of the wind.

The Walk

The Walk

Each step matters.
Go ahead, take one
then another.
Not too close
to the edge.
Try to stay
on solid ground.
Don't be afraid
to look around.
You can still
go forward
if you slip
into the sand.
It just takes
more effort.
Rest when you're
weary, set
your own pace.
You may even
need to retrace
a few strides.
Keep going.
You're making progress.
