Re-Memories

Re-Memories

Over time, we re-memory.
Images unsharpen.
Blues and yellows
(once distinct)
blend into greens.
The details are of
Fourth of Labor Day
or ThanksChristmas.
Names sit back with
no fear of being called on.
Maybe next time.
After all, there are
no lasting re-memories.

Do you think are memories change over the years?

Share the Treasure

Share the Treasure

Pirates would
bury the treasure.
Draw maps with
landmarks and paces,
a large X
marking the place
to dig and reclaim
what they left.

How many of
the buriers made
it back to enjoy
what they took
so much time
to protect?

Why not share
the treasure
when it's found
and grow richer
in the giving?

Have you shared any treasure lately?

Turn the Corner

Turn the Corner

Face the wall.
You have no room
to move straight ahead.
You can stay
where you are. You're
comfortable here.
Or, you could go
in a different direction.
Turn the corner and
embrace the possibilities.

What choice would you make?

Napkin Poetry

Life is like a bowl of mixed nuts:

1. You may be judged by the amount of cashew have.

2. Be patient and the hazel clear.

3. Don't be afraid  to say, "Almond my ways."

4. Don't get caught pecan into the wrong places.

5. If all else fails, escape to Brazil.

Have you ever written napkin poetry? Thanks to Robert Lee Brewer for this prompt on his Poetic Asides blog.  Occasionally, Wordsmith Studio holds a bar napkin poetry evening or weekend.

Sunlight

Sunlight

Sometimes, the sunlight
brightens with its touch.
Spotlights details that
otherwise go unnoticed.

Sometimes, the sunlight
darkens what's in its path.
Shadows are cast because
those receiving the light
can't let it through.

Sometimes, the sunlight
creates reflections.
Turns what's real upside
down and lets it float
outside its borders.

How is the sunlight present in your surroundings? Do you look for shadows or reflections?

The Clouds Gather

The Clouds Gather

What brings them together?
Mother Nature's weekly staff meeting?
A debrief of the latest storm?
A seminar on how to
make a better raindrop?
If they are lucky, it's time for
a heavenly happy hour.

What do you think the clouds are up to?

The Woodpecker

The Woodpecker

Why doesn't
the woodpecker sing
instead of making holes
in everything?
Why does it settle
for pecking on metal?
As a child, I loved
a cartoon woodpecker.
It made a noise like,
"ha ha ha ha ha."
Now, I feel like
a live one
 is in my living room,
and it laughs at me, too.

What sounds do you hear in spring?

Solitude

Solitude

Alone
but not lonely.
Quiet
but not without words.
Still
but able to move the soul.

Do you need alone time? How do you spend it?

Flurry

Flurry

Small petals drop
from the trees
with the aid
of the wind.
They could be
mistaken for
snowflakes as
they twirl in
the air and create
a whiteout.
They never melt.
Instead, they choose
between drifting
on the breeze
or snuggling
with the earth.

Have you seen any flurries this spring?
