Storm Damage

Storm Damage

They would have fallen anyway.

But, I might have had them

a few more days.

Instead, the wind and rain came through.

Cut short our time together.

There was nothing I could do.

What's Missing

What's  Missing

What's missing is
a sound.
What's missing is
a sight.
What's missing is
a touch.
What's left is

a gap.

Take the extra steps.
No frills but still beautiful.
See more than one side.

At the Center

At the Center

The center of the
flower forms first.
The petals grow
around it.
They have a
longer reach,
but all that they are
starts with the heart.

The Flower

The Flower

I see the petals now.
They are still wrapped
tightly together, but
I make out an edge or two.
Soon, they will begin to rise.
Give each other some space.
Stand and take the places
to which they have been assigned.
Become known as the flower.

From the Center

From the Center

What radiates from the center?
Petals

How do they unfold?
Individually

What do they form together?
Flowers

What remains their own?
Life

The use of long and short lines, and questions and answers was inspired by the Spanish form ovillejo. There are other requirements of the form that I didn't use.

What's the difference?

What's the difference?

The flower is the same.
The soil is the same.
The exposure to the sun is the same.
The amount of water is the same.
The weather is the same.
So, what's the difference?
The way the petals turn out.

Watch the Petals

Watch the Petals

Watch the
petals unfold.
They stand tall,
colorful and strong.
Look radiant in
the sun.
Some are beaten
down by storms
while they are
still young.
Others hold on,
fade and fall.
Blow away
in the wind
or return to
the soil.

Details

Details

I take the time
to see the details
of the flower.
The way the petals
sit together.
How they curve
or stretch.
The length and
depth of each groove.
The closer I look,
the more the beauty
is magnified.

I Watch You Grow

I Watch You Grow

I watch each inch you add.
I watch your leaves spread.
I watch the buds appear.
I watch the colors show.
I watch the petals enfold.
I watch you grow.

The Leaf

The Leaf

The leaf that fell
in fall survived
the winter to
see the blossoms
of spring and wait
for their petals
to fall and join
it on the ground.

Out of Place

Out of Place

The petal was out of place again.
It loved to turn toward the sun
and let the wind lift it up.
"Why can't you stay in line?"
the flower asked for the 100th time.
" I am not a soldier who stands
in formation," the petal answered.
"I was made to move around
and I will not be tied down."

Remnants

Remnants

The pieces
remind us
of what was.

The spaces
highlight what
will never
be again.

This is what
will be now
and always.

The Departed

The Departed

Do you miss me?
I've stayed close by.
Can you feel me?
I'm right by your side.

I'm going to take a break. The next post will be July 11.

Flurry

Flurry

Small petals drop
from the trees
with the aid
of the wind.
They could be
mistaken for
snowflakes as
they twirl in
the air and create
a whiteout.
They never melt.
Instead, they choose
between drifting
on the breeze
or snuggling
with the earth.

Have you seen any flurries this spring?

Early Bloomers

Early Bloomers

Ready to burst.
Be the first
to unfurl
your petals.
Stretch them
out to bask
in the sun
and show off
their colors.
