Life Changing

 Life Changing

The growth begins.

It takes time.

Storms present challenges.

Not all that start will finish.

Those that do are life changing.

No Change

No Change

The temperature sinks.

Wind adds a chill.

Clouds keep the day gray.

The calendar says spring is here,

but the weather hasn't changed.

Spring Returns

Spring Returns

I can't wait

until spring returns.

The trees fill up.

The flowers come out.

Geese and ducks

and all kinds of things

bring us new life in spring.

Let It Be True

Let It Be True

I see you.
Let it be true
that seeing you
means spring
will be here soon.

Another Fall

Another Fall

I first think of the leaves
as they change color,
then drift down.
Trees once full are now bare.
So much is lost.

But, there is another fall.

Pods grow and fill with seeds.
They burst open and let
their contents go.
Ground now bare
will be filled with
blossoms in spring.
So much is still to come.

Gifts of Spring

Gifts of Spring

Spring gives us more
time in the light
leaves in the trees
songs in the morning
warmth in the air
growth everywhere

Greet Spring

Greet Spring

High above
On the ground
Leaves sprout
Flowers open

Feel warmth
Hear songs
See changes
Greet spring

Winter Returns

Winter Returns

Spring lets its
guard down and
winter returns.
The fronts are cold.
The temperature
drops so much it
yields hard freezes.
What will happen to
the trees' new leaves,
the plants that have
poked through the earth?
What about the flowers
that are in bloom?
Will they be damaged
beyond repair or
show us how to survive
an unexpected scare?

Beauty Blooms

Beauty Blooms

The climate isn't
good right now.
Still, it is spring.
I look out my
window and see
flowers that weren't
there the day before.
Not everything that
blooms is good, but
most of it is beautiful.

The Leaves Begin to Fill the Trees Again

The Leaves Begin to Fill the Trees Again

The leaves begin to
fill the trees again.
The branches hang
differently, as if
they are showing
off new clothes.
The green stands out
against the clouds.
The rustle returns
when the wind blows.
I know all these things
will happen each spring.
Yet, as they do, I
can't help but feel
the excitement anew.

Spring Promises

Spring Promises

The return of leaves
that rustle in the wind.
Baby birds that will become
singers in Mother Nature's choir.
Flowers that add colors to the land-
scape and fragrances to the air.
Growth all around.

Guess what the prompt was for this one.

Full Bloom

Full Bloom

The wintry mixes will end.
The snow will melt.
Breath will be heard
but not seen.

The trees will fill with leaves.
The daffodils will open.
Spring will be in full bloom.
It can't happen too soon.

The Music of the Trees

The Music of the Trees

The leaves return in spring
and with them comes
the music of the trees.
Under the direction
of the wind, they
start their movement and
create a contrary song.
For the stronger the breeze,
the louder the leaves go,
"shhhhhhh, shhhhhhh."

The Leaf

The Leaf

The leaf that fell
in fall survived
the winter to
see the blossoms
of spring and wait
for their petals
to fall and join
it on the ground.

Is Spring Shy?

Is Spring Shy?

Spring is shy this year.
She shows her face
for a day or two then hides
behind the bluster of winter.

She lets her warmth be felt
so we change to light clothes
then withdraws it, leaving us cold.

She enjoys the flowers for
a few hours then retreats
under a blanket of snow.

I have fallen for her ruse.
Spring is not shy. She is a
prankster who turns us all
into April fools.

Anticipation

Anticipation

Through the window,
I saw a flash of yellow
then rushed out
the back door
to see the daffodil.
I didn't have to
go far to realize
that the petals
were tightly coiled.
The disappointment
slowed me until
I took a second look.
The bud did not have
the beauty of a flower,
but it glowed
with the anticipation
of becoming one.

Field of Flowers

Field of Flowers

The field of flowers
catches my eye.
It showcases all its powers.
The field of flowers
delights for hours.
As blooms wave and insects fly,
the field of flowers
catches my eye.

Enjoy the first days of spring. This poem is a triolet.
