Welcome

Welcome

to the park.

You have chosen a nice day.

Flowers are blooming.

 Birds are flying.

You may see a fish jump

or a frog dive.

Enjoy your stay!

Expect some surprises.

Let It Be True

Let It Be True

I see you.
Let it be true
that seeing you
means spring
will be here soon.

Edge of the Water

 Edge of the Water

Robin
goes bobbin' by
the edge of the water.
Satisfies its needs then heads to
the trees.

This form is a cinquain.

As I

the scene
captures

Sit

Sit

Pick a spot to stop,
sit. Leave with
a new perspective.

This form is the lune, also known as the American Haiku. The prompt to write a short form poem is part of the 2020 April PAD Countdown Challenge on Robert Lee Brewer's blog, Poetic Asides.

Balance

Balance

The robin appears
to be standing
on one foot,
trying to keep
his balance in
the same old
place. In reality,
he is caught
in mid step
and will soon
be moving forward.

Rocks in your Path

Rocks in your Path

Rocks in your path
are very disturbing.
As a matter of fact,
they are perturbing.
Are they there
to block your way
or do they have
something to say?
Are they a sign
that you should stop?
Stay where you are;
let your anchor drop?
Perhaps they
could help you see
your future
a little differently.
Let you step up and
look at the view
of the things you
still could do.
Give you some time
to decide if what you see
is worth the climb.

The First Day of Spring

The First Day of Spring

It’s the first day of spring.
Daylight and darkness are equal,
but, for me, it’s the longest
day of the year.

Humans get so excited
when they see me.
I wish I knew who
started that myth
about seeing the
first robin of spring.
Besides, I don’t control
the weather.

Late snows aren’t a
picnic for me either.
Flying in that stuff is brutal.
No one de-ices me and
I don’t have windshield wipers.
I get tired of eating frozen food
and don’t get me started on
shoveling out the nest.

Well, it’s only 24 hours.
Then, I can go back
to being just another
one of the birds.

This poem was written in response to this week's prompt on Poetic Asides.

Flaws

Flaw-an imperfection or weakness and especially one that detracts from the whole or hinders effectiveness. (Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary)

Is this photograph flawed?  Does the flower cutting across the robin detract from the photo or enhance it? I'd love to hear what you think.

Thanks to Dana Dampier for this week's Wordsmith Studio Creative Prompt. How would you interpret Flaws? Post a link to your interpretation in the comments on the blog post.

Tuesday Photos-Birds

Taking pictures of birds is a lot of fun so I was really excited when Rebecca Barray chose birds as this week's Wordsmith Studio Photo Prompt.

The above photo is one of my favorite pictures of a robin. I took it earlier this year.

Of course, we have plenty of crows around.

In my neighborhood, I know there is always one place I can find a bird if I need one.

Take some pictures of your favorite birds, and post a link to them in the comments on the prompt post.

Tuesday Photo-Spring

Nothing says spring like a robin-even when there is snow on the ground! Welcome to spring 2013. This picture was taken Saturday afternoon, shortly after the snow began.

This is approximately the same spot Sunday morning. Not a robin in sight!

I'm reprising a poem I posted a couple of years ago called Snow in Spring.

I hope your spring has a little more spring in it than mine does. Either way, take a picture of it and post a link in the comments on this week's Wordsmith Studio Photo Prompt.  Thanks to Linda G Hatton for this week's prompt.
