The Get-Together

The Get-Together

Let's drop into
our favorite spot.
Catch up on
all the news.
Share some
food and laughs.
Stay as long
as we like
then take off.

Support

Support

There is a time
to stand alone
and a time to
ask for help.
I reach out
and find you
beside me.
You hold me up
until I regain
my balance.
On another day,
we will switch roles.

Side By Side

Side By Side

A duck and a goose
meet up on the lake.
They are different
sizes and colors.
They communicate
with different sounds.
Yet, they can swim
side by side and
move forward together.

Anticipation

Anticipation

Through the window,
I saw a flash of yellow
then rushed out
the back door
to see the daffodil.
I didn't have to
go far to realize
that the petals
were tightly coiled.
The disappointment
slowed me until
I took a second look.
The bud did not have
the beauty of a flower,
but it glowed
with the anticipation
of becoming one.

A Peaceful Day

A Peaceful Day

The grass stands
like a soldier
at attention.
Cotton-ball clouds
float in the sky
and boats bob
in wavy water.
The sand sits
undisturbed.
This day,
there is peace.
How long
will it last?

Rest Now

Rest Now

Rest now,
for morning
comes soon.
The reassuring
rhythm of the waves
is your lullaby.
Drift, drift,
drift off.
Dreams roll in,
wash over you
like high tide
then recede.
When you awaken,
 sail into the new day.

Awareness

Awareness

Two ducks sit
close to shore.
One looks toward
the water.
The other keeps
an eye on the land.
They will swim away
when their senses
 tell them to go.

Small Waves

Small Waves

Make small waves.
Soon, they will fill
the water, ready
to rock some boats.

Growth

Growth

The branches grow
singularly and straight
or wind and entwine.
They get cut
then lengthen again.
Despite setbacks and scars,
they continue to increase in size.
Growth is the work of a lifetime.
