A duck and a goose
meet up on the lake.
They are different
sizes and colors.
They communicate
with different sounds.
Yet, they can swim
side by side and
move forward together.

Anticipation
Anticipation
Through the window,
I saw a flash of yellow
then rushed out
the back door
to see the daffodil.
I didn't have to
go far to realize
that the petals
were tightly coiled.
The disappointment
slowed me until
I took a second look.
The bud did not have
the beauty of a flower,
but it glowed
with the anticipation
of becoming one.

The grass stands
like a soldier
at attention.
Cotton-ball clouds
float in the sky
and boats bob
in wavy water.
The sand sits
undisturbed.
This day,
there is peace.

Growth
The branches grow
singularly and straight
or wind and entwine.
They get cut
then lengthen again.
Despite setbacks and scars,
they continue to increase in size.
