Something New

Something New

I love to find something new.

An animal that might be

stopping by for a day or two.

A butterfly with a different color scheme.

A bird that sings a new tune.

For me, finding something new

is a walk in the park.

Two Sides

Two Sides

The tops of the
butterfly's wings
are rich in color.
Hold bold designs
that grab our attention.

But, the wings have
another side.
Subtle colors,
muted markings
yield a lighter beauty.

Differences are a natural
part of the whole.

Different Ways

Different Ways

I watch the phlox
as its petals unfold.
The coneflower grows
a center first then petals
sprout all around it.
The white of the
daisy's petals are visible.
They stand up and
reveal the center.
Different ways,
the same result-
a beautiful flower.

The Same Path

The Same Path

If we all
take the same path, the
footprints may
overwhelm
the space  and cause destruction.
Carve out some new trails.

This is a Spanish form called shadorma.

Side By Side

Side By Side

A duck and a goose
meet up on the lake.
They are different
sizes and colors.
They communicate
with different sounds.
Yet, they can swim
side by side and
move forward together.

Meanings

Meanings

What does the
butterfly mean to me?
Beauty--an identity composed
of colors and shapes.
Purpose--the pollinator whose
labor truly bears fruit.
Spirits--lost loved ones
stopping by.

Have I seen all
there is to see?
Would you see
this being differently?
If I knew that, would it
make a difference to me.

Petals

Petals

Did you see
which one
opened first?

Are they all
colored exactly
the same?

Aren't some shorter
and some wider?

How many points
does each have
on its end?

Can you guess
which one will be
the last to fall
to earth?

Wings

Wings

The wings of the cardinal
are bright red, decorated
with feathers and
flap steadily.

The wings of the bee
are clear, decorated
with lines and
move frenetically.

When the bird
and the bee fly,
the wings they have
give them all
the lift they need.

Memorable

Memorable

Every flower isn't perfect.
Sometimes the parts are
assembled in a different way.
The petals are in disarray.
The center isn't on display.
Of all the flowers the garden
gives to me, these are the
ones I hold in my memory.
