Stillness is Important
The heron picks a place.
Looks at a particular space.
Stands still.
Makes a slow turn of the head.
Stands still.
Stretches its neck.
Stands still.
Bends down then straightens up.
Stands still.
One quick strike ends the stillness.
I am a poet and photographer who likes sports, jazz and art inspired by other art. I served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the early 1970's and was assigned to the Computer Sciences School in Quantico, VA. I have published a chapbook of grief poems, I Keep You with Me. Out of Bounds
Sometimes I miss the basket.
Don't even hit the rim.
But a teammate grabs
Other times, the ball gets away.
We send it out of bounds.
The other team gets a chance
to make a play.
