An Overflow

An Overflow

Too much at one time.

No room inside.

No where to go

but outside the line.

The Winter Sun

The Winter Sun

The winter sun shines bright.

Sits in a clear blue sky.

Lays reflections in the lake.

May even melt some ice.

Don't be taken in

by what you see.

Check the temperature

before you go outside.

The winter sun

can't be trusted.

The Sky Floats

The Sky Floats

Some days, the sun shares its home.
Shines so the sky floats on the lake.
At first, the sight is disorienting.
The world seems upside-down.
Then, I understand the gift--a
close-up of something so distant,
time spent within reach of
the unreachable.
I love the days when the sky
floats and always send the sun
a thank-you note.

On the Shore

On the Shore

I stand on the shore
and watch the lake ripple.
The ducks come and go.
They may drop from the sky
or jump from a spot
right next to me.
I wish I could follow.
Hit the water and play
or swim away.
The wind picks up
and gives me a shake.
As my fantasy fades,
I accept that those things
are not in my nature.

The Lake

The Lake

The lake provides a peace I don't often find.
I fall into its rhythm without a thought.
The movement relaxes me and clears my mind.
It frees me from all of the worries I brought.
I watch the waves and the way they are aligned.
They roll in and bring me the answers I sought.

This poetic form is strambotto.

Wait for the Warm Air

Wait for the Warm Air

Where there once was water,
there is now ice.
The lake is cold and hard.
Geese are denied
the chance to swim, but
gather here anyway.
Instinct tells them to
wait for the warm air, and
the water will flow again.

Flying Home

Flying Home

The geese appear overhead--the lake is frozen
Honks sound in celebration--the open space calls
Feet come down like landing gear--the surface glimmers
They touch the icy runway--the ice holds its own

This poem is an Imayo.

Winter Sun

Winter Sun

The winter sun
shines bright.
Cracks the ice
with its light.
Leaves the air
cooler than I like.

Move With The Water

Move With The Water

Move with the water.
Let it keep you afloat.
Don't struggle
against the current.
Drift a little.
Allow yourself to
be carried until
you are ready to set
your own course.

Quiet!

Quiet!

I want to enjoy
a peaceful afternoon.
Stand in the sunshine
at the edge of  the lake
and watch the water.
No cell phones that ring.
No tablets that ping.
No notifications
about anything.
No interruptions.
