Taste

Taste

Taste is individual
but not exclusive.
Many friendships
begin between
those who dig
the same things.

Impressions of a Reflection

Impressions of a Reflection

Throwback to the time
when artists moved outside.
Brushstrokes hinted at forms.
The sun contributed light.

Got the Blues

Got the Blues

Got the blues in my head.
I hope you'll excuse me.

Got the blues in my heart.
I couldn't refuse them.

Got the blues in my walk.
I don't know how to soothe them.

Got the blues everywhere
and I can't lose them.

A Lesson in Patience

A Lesson in Patience

The heron stands still
minute after minute.
Every so often, it leans in
for a closer look
at the water.
The movement is
slow and deliberate
as is the return
to full height.
The wait continues
until the heron moves
to a new place.
It stands still
minute after minute.
I wish I had
the patience of a heron.

Down the Road

Down the Road

I don't know
what's down the road.
Can't see over the hill.
Does the road come
to an abrupt end or
extend for miles and miles?
Guess it's time for me to see.
I'd rather take the ride
than sit around and wonder.

Lost in the Water

 Lost in the Water

I get lost in the water
without going in.
Am mesmerized by
the motion of its waves.
I remain still
though it rocks my soul.
Peacefulness rises.

I Just Want to Fly

I Just Want to Fly

I'm ready to get on board.
Put my belongings in the
overhead  compartment
or under the seat in front of me.
Make sure my seatback is
in the upright position.
Fasten my seatbelt.
Put my phone and Ipad
in airplane mode.
I'll do everything
I need to do to be
ready for takeoff.
I just want to fly.

Survivors

Survivors

The rain was hard.
The wind was strong.
We were beaten down.
Some bent a little.
Others hit the ground.
When the storm was over,
we were still around.
