The Water Rocks Me

The Water Rocks Me

When it's rolling
in to shore,
the water rocks me.

When it forms waves
that curl and foam,
the water rocks me.

When it is still
a little choppy,
the water rocks me.

Even when it looks
as smooth as glass,
the water rocks me.

Rest Now

Rest Now

Rest now,
for morning
comes soon.
The reassuring
rhythm of the waves
is your lullaby.
Drift, drift,
drift off.
Dreams roll in,
wash over you
like high tide
then recede.
When you awaken,
 sail into the new day.

Waves of Light

Waves of Light

Waves of light roll in.
I wonder how long they'll stay
and what they'll take away.

Left Behind

Left Behind

The seaweed feels
the tide recede.
It has been left
at the waters edge,
a decoration
on the sand.
It feels the drying
heat of the sun
and the careless
stomps and kicks
of humans.
It can do nothing
but wait for the sea to return
and sweep it up again.

Changing Tides

Changing Tides

The tide came in and
almost knocked
us off our feet.
We kept our balance.
The tide went out,
and left behind countless
pieces of broken shells.
I examined several
then decided I didn't
want any souvenirs.
