The Bud

The Bud

The bud
waves in the wind
and says to onlookers,
"Wait until you see what I have
inside."

This poem is a cinquain, 22 syllables divided into five lines of 2, 4, 6, 8, 2. I really took to this form when I learned it in 8th grade so I decided to revisit it.

I Watch You Grow

I Watch You Grow

I watch each inch you add.
I watch your leaves spread.
I watch the buds appear.
I watch the colors show.
I watch the petals enfold.
I watch you grow.

Anticipation

Anticipation

Through the window,
I saw a flash of yellow
then rushed out
the back door
to see the daffodil.
I didn't have to
go far to realize
that the petals
were tightly coiled.
The disappointment
slowed me until
I took a second look.
The bud did not have
the beauty of a flower,
but it glowed
with the anticipation
of becoming one.

Yawn

The bud opens wide
with a yawn that shows all it
holds. See what unfolds.

In Full Bloom

In Full Bloom

The bud sits
and watches
the flower.
Wishes it could
grow up overnight,
but the journey
to flowerhood
takes time.

So, the bud
basks in the sun.
Drinks water.
Wrestles with
the wind.
Dreams of
the day it
will open and
sit on display,
in full bloom.

I like to watch the life cycle of the flowers.

Early Bloomers

Early Bloomers

Ready to burst.
Be the first
to unfurl
your petals.
Stretch them
out to bask
in the sun
and show off
their colors.
