The Sedum
The Sedum
The sedum sits
in the garden.
It is bright green
and stands up straight.
New buds grow.
Other plants look beat,
but the sedum doesn't overheat.

Wonderland
Wonderland
I used to dream
of wonderland.
It was always
far away.
Then, I stopped to
watch the sunrise,
and later, the sunset.
I noticed the bees
and the butterflies
sharing the flowers.
I found a heron in
the park and followed
as it took a walk.
I learned that wonder-
land isn't one place.
I create it with what
I take the time to see
in a given space.

On the Fly
On the Fly
The butterfly looks for a space,
a comfortable resting place.
A leaf catches its eye.
The sedum appendage stays straight,
not bothered by the extra weight.
Support found on the fly.
This is a French form called rime couee.

First Shift
The bees are
attracted to
the new blooms.
Two alight on
opposite sides,
face each other,
work their
own territory.
They labor
without a break
until they hear
the buzzing
that signals
the shift change.
