Cling to the Flower

 Cling to the Flower

The raindrops cling

to the flower.

Wait for the sun

to come out.

Sit in the warmth

until they evaporate

instead of seeping

into the ground.

Lean

Lean

I am inclined to lean.

Sideways so I can see around an obstacle.

Back in a chair when I need to think.

Forward when I'm engrossed in a conversation.

and, on all those who offer their support.

Into the Wind

Into the Wind

I feel the resistance.

May get pushed off course.

But, what hampers the flight

helps with the landing.

A Lift

A Lift

Give me a lift,
a small shift up.
The gift I need.

Allows a view
filled with new scenes
of true beauty.

The poem is written in a Burmese form called than-bauk.

Behind You

Behind You

I am behind you.
Go out and find you.
Release that which confines you.
Take all the time you
need to define you.
When others malign you,
I am behind you.

Cushion the Blow

Cushion the Blow

When I fall,
others cushion the blow.
Sit with me until
I get my bearings.
They have fallen before
so they know it takes time
to get back up.

Watch What I Do

Watch What I Do

Watch what I do.
Follow my lead.
I'll show all I know.
Give you a good start.

You'll take the lead.
Make your own way.
I'll watch what you do.
Ready if you need me.

Some Stand Behind

Some Stand Behind

Some stand behind.
Put certain goals aside.
Their growth doesn't stop.
They spread out in
other directions.
Make their own selections
as to how and where
their colors show through.
They stand behind but
have room to move forward.

Uplifting

Uplifting

Do you need a lift?
I'll give you a hand.
Won't let go until
you're able to stand.

Always remember-
reach out to others.
Don't pass up a chance
to help another.

I Leaned On You

I Leaned On You

(In memory of Bill Withers)

I leaned on you
when I felt sorrow
and didn't want to face
another tomorrow.

I leaned on you
when I had too much pride
to show the feelings I
held inside.

I leaned on you
and the notes took command.
The words touched me like they
could understand.

I'll lean on you again
even though you are gone
because the music will
carry on.

Clouds Congregate

Clouds Congregate

Clouds congregate
at sunset.
Bask in the last

Huddle as darkness
overtakes them.

I Stand Beside You

I Stand Beside You

I stand beside you,
poised to listen to your soul.
Unburden yourself.

No words are too harsh
to end our conversation.
I listen freely.

No conversation
is too long to hold my ear.
I listen closely.

No sorrow too great
to cause me to turn away.
I listen always.

I stand beside you
firmly, without fail.

I'm going to take a break next week. My next post will be Tuesday, August 30.

Columns

Columns

Stand upright
in rows or alone.
Bear the weight
or decorate a space.

Landmark for
 all who pass by
or approach and try
to take in your strength.

Tower over
your visitors,
not in dominance
but constancy.
