Life Can Be Slippery

Life Can Be Slippery

I am moving through

the day smoothly.

But, I don't see the wet spot.

Suddenly, I fall.

All I hold scatters.

Perhaps, some shatters.

I get back up.

Gather all I can

and begin to move again.

Close to Me

Close to Me

I saw the flower from afar, but since then have kept it close to me.

Cling to the Flower

 Cling to the Flower

The raindrops cling

to the flower.

Wait for the sun

to come out.

Sit in the warmth

until they evaporate

instead of seeping

into the ground.

Old and New

Old and New

Old and new sit
side by side.
Old represents
new's future.
New represents
old's past.
They continue to
share the present.

A Lift

A Lift

Give me a lift,
a small shift up.
The gift I need.

Allows a view
filled with new scenes
of true beauty.

The poem is written in a Burmese form called than-bauk.

Create Your Own Memories

Create Your Own Memories

I share a flower with you.
One I care for; one I spend time with.
I have watched it grow and bloom.
Display its colors then let them go.
Stand in the sunlight and fall in a storm.
I share a flower and invite you
to create your own memories.

Your Time

Your Time

This is your time to
bask in the light.
Show off your colors,
your texture, your depth
before the sun sets.

Uplifting

Uplifting

Do you need a lift?
I'll give you a hand.
Won't let go until
you're able to stand.

Always remember-
reach out to others.
Don't pass up a chance
to help another.

Love at First Sight

Love at First Sight

As I walked into
the nursery, a
patch of red
caught my eye.
I went straight
towards it.
Sitting in a corner
was a deep red
daylily.
The color was
beautiful, and
it made the petals
look velvety.
I was smitten.

We have been
together for
several years now.
The flower has
survived my fawning
and my neglect.
Every spring, I
wait for the
buds to open.
When I see the
color, as bril-
liant as ever,
I am still
drawn to it.

An Apology to Flies

An Apology to Flies

I have always
thought of you
as picnic-crashers
and nuisances.
When I saw
two of you
sitting on my
daylily, I
wondered what
brought you there.
Did you serve
a purpose?
I didn't know
so I did
some research
and found out
that you are
pollinators
for some flowers.
I am sorry
I misjudged you.
Next time I
see you at
a picnic,
maybe we can
split a hotdog.

Togetherness

Togetherness

What brings us together?
Having the same roots?
Finding common ground?
Weathering the storms?
Sharing time in the sun?

Watch for Me

Watch for Me

I take a peek
at the world.
A side splits
and gives a preview
of my rich redness.
Watch for me to open.
Once I'm on display,
I'm gone within a day.

One Day Only

One Day Only

The bloom lasts
for one day.
Will it have
time in the sun
or weather
a storm?
Will it feel
 temperatures
that are balmy
 or blistering?
Will it hold bees
and butterflies or
face dogs and deer?
Will it catch
the eye of passersby
or spend hours
in anonymity?
No matter
what awaits,
the bloom opens
and lasts for one day.

How often do you look at the flowers in your garden?
