The Color Fades

The Color Fades

The color fades.
So
bright
a
start,
so
long
in
sunlight.
So,
the color fades.

This form is the skinny.

Love at First Sight

Love at First Sight

As I walked into
the nursery, a
patch of red
caught my eye.
I went straight
towards it.
Sitting in a corner
was a deep red
daylily.
The color was
beautiful, and
it made the petals
look velvety.
I was smitten.

We have been
together for
several years now.
The flower has
survived my fawning
and my neglect.
Every spring, I
wait for the
buds to open.
When I see the
color, as bril-
liant as ever,
I am still
drawn to it.

Stars

Stars

These stars are
found near the ground.
They are the color
of the sun and
dance to the rhythm
of the wind
in the center
of a flower.
They shine
on their own,
not dependent
on the darkness.

Everything Looks Gray

Everything Looks Gray

There are days
when everything
looks gray, as
though night won't
quite give way.

It's not dark
but damp and hazy,
all the edges fuzzy.
I strain to see but
can't brighten up
the image.

I yearn for a
Kodachrome slide.

Fall Flash

Fall Flash

The trees are
adorned in color
before all their
leaves are lost.
They garner gazes
of admiration then
are stripped of
ornamentation.
They become
skeletons left
out in the cold.

Do you enjoy the fall foliage? Do you notice how a view changes when the trees lose their leaves?

Pastels

Pastels

These colors are shy.
Don't burst on the scene,
loud and brash.
Instead, they speak in whispers.
Give us a hint of what
they have to offer.
Make us take the time
to get to know them
before they reveal all.
