Gold is Gone

Gold is Gone

Took time to get here.

Had a short stay.

Let go and fluttered

to the ground.

Became the  crunch

made by footsteps.

Another Day Together

Another Day Together

Leaves align on the branches.

Some wave above the others.

Some hang below.

Those in the middle may

be found lying down.

Whatever their position,

they put their colors on display.

Spend another day together

before they fall away.

Cracks

Cracks

When did the cracks appear?
They weren't always here.

The change happened over time.
I didn't notice, the lines were so fine.

Thin  splits become wide.
Create a great divide.

One that is on display.
One that will not go away.

Your Time

Your Time

This is your time to
bask in the light.
Show off your colors,
your texture, your depth
before the sun sets.

Out of Step

Out of Step

Don't know when
to move my feet.
Rhythm section
lost the beat.
Can't get time
to repeat.

Mosaic

Mosaic

Pieces of ice form
a floating mosaic.
The shards create
a new whole
of their own design.
One that is temporary,
continually changed by
movement and time.

The Game of Life

The Game of Life

We play with time
even though we
cannot see the clock.

Get up to watch the
sun rise or sleep
the morning away.

Work overtime
or come and go
on the dot.

Worry about everything
or enjoy
whatever we've got.

Fill each day
in our own way
until the clock runs out.

The prompt for this poem was game.

Stillness

Stillness

There is a beauty
stillness offers
that motion can't.
A presence that endures.
Clarity instead of blurs.
The length of time
we have to gaze upon it
rests with us.

As You Leave

As You Leave

I watch as you leave,
wishing you could stay.
I thought we'd have more time,
but the choice isn't mine.
You fade from view as the
distance between us grows.
I cling to my perch,
not ready to let go.

Clock Tower

Clock Tower

Time towers over the town,
faces in different directions.
On the sidewalks,
people worry about:

being on time,
wasting their time,
having no time.

In the meantime, the hands
of the clock move in
the steady rhythm--
tick-tock.

Fire in the Trees

Fire in the Trees

Fall sets the
trees on fire.
Sparks of red,
yellow and orange
spring up and spread
through the leaves
until the branches
are ablaze.
Time is the
extinguisher,
the signal to let go.

A Bad Waiter

A Bad Waiter

I wish I were
a good waiter,
content to sit
in the car and
crawl past the
orange cones.
Relaxed when
standing in
any line.
Unphased by
the ticking away
of  the time
it takes to navigate
daily tasks.
Will I ever become one?
I'll have to wait and see.

Are you a good waiter?

Time

Time

Time goes
by seconds
by minutes
by hours
by days
by weeks
by months
by years.
Time goes by
and we can't
buy it back.

Thanks for spending some of your time reading this.
