Turn the Corner

Turn the Corner

Face the wall.
You have no room
to move straight ahead.
You can stay
where you are. You're
comfortable here.
Or, you could go
in a different direction.
Turn the corner and
embrace the possibilities.

What choice would you make?

The Other Side

The Other Side

How long did
it take to
build this wall,
to make it
so solid,
to make it
so tall?
What will it
take to bring
it down,
to turn our
lives around,
to bring us
together?

Do you build walls? What kind?

This poem was inspired by one of the early prompts in the 2015 Poem A Day Chapbook Challenge: united and/or divided.

Up and Over

Up and Over

Rough stone
Sharp edges
One misstep
results in
brush burns.
Another could
mean a fall.
Find firm
footing and
up you go,
over the wall.
