If the Clouds had Eyes

If the Clouds had Eyes

they would take in nature's beauty.

Birds fly high and dip their wings.

Flowers wave in the wind.

The land, the sea and the sky hypnotize.

Then, nature's brutal side appears.

Floods submerge the lands.

Tornados take down towns.

Fires burn the forests.

If the clouds had eyes, they would cry.

A Stream of Storms

 A Stream of Storms

Month after month

Week after week

Lightning flashes.

Thunder claps.

Trees fall.

Water rises.

Month after month

Week after week

A stream of storms

like I've never seen.

An Empty Space

An Empty Space

You were the tallest of the tall.

Exuded strength.

Some came to sit with you.

Some wanted your perspective.

I looked up to you.

Now, I look down

on dirt and grass.

An empty space in which

 I will always see you.

The Split

The Split

isn't very wide.

Just enough to change

one unit into two.

They remain in

close proximity,

but can't come back together.

The Fallout

The Fallout

I sit peacefully.
I hear a noise.
It seems far away.
I think I am safe,
but, in no time,
I feel the fallout.

Unraveled

Unraveled

The rope has unraveled.
I remember when it was new,
tightly woven and strong.
I'm grateful for all it held for me.

Now, it sits in the sand,
strands spread in all directions.
It has come apart, and
I can't fix it.

Downed

Downed

The trees have fallen.
What brought them down?
Was it sickness, people, wind?
Even if we knew, we couldn't
stand them up again.
The best we can do
is let them rest.

Tinder

Tinder

How did the fire start?
What was the spark?
When did it turn to flames?
How did it get out of control?
How will we recover?
What will we build in the empty space?

Collateral Damage

Collateral Damage

The milkweed beetle
doesn't damage its host.
It eats the seeds,
cuts down the number
of new plants,
diminishes the
food supply of
the monarchs.
The destruction
comes in the loss
of what could have been.

Do you observe nature then write about what you see?

Missing Pieces

Missing Pieces

A piece torn off
by storm or worn
until it lets go.
The means don't
matter--it's gone.

How to go on?
By accepting,
perhaps forgiving,
simply by living.

Weather-Beaten

Weather-Beaten

Dried by the sun.
Cracks converge.
Warped by wetness.
Begins to bow.
Rattled by the wind.
Won't fall down.
Beaten, but still holds up.
