Hold On To Hope
Hold On To Hope
Hold on to hope
One way to cope
I stay afloat
without a boat
Keep my eyes on
the horizon
This poem is a cywydd deuair fyrion, a Welsh couplet form.

Sunburn
Sunburn
A flower of the night
opens in the dark.
Bright yellow petals
unfold then stretch
out, fully opened as
they are touched by
the morning light.
By the next day, the petals
are out of the spotlight
and have changed color.
They look as though they
spent too much time in the
sun and got burned for it.

Waiting for the Wind
Waiting for the Wind
I'm waiting for
the wind to change.
Go from cold to warm,
strong to gentle.
Hold things up instead
of bring them down.
Give me some assistance
instead of put up resistance
as I move through the day.

Solid Ground
Solid Ground
A goose swims
to the edge
of the lake
and finds that
the water has
overflowed.
It will take
more effort
than usual
to get back
on solid ground.

Blue
Blue
I have always
been partial to blue.
I love it in the sky,
in the oceans, in
clothing and in art.
Perhaps this is because
I see the world through
blue eyes.

Rough Edges
Rough Edges
When a branch breaks,
one end is rough.
Irregular enough to
cause cuts and scrapes.
Be sure to exercise care
until the edges become
smooth from exposure.

Long Enough
Long Enough
How long has
the tree stood
in the woods?
Long enough to
thicken its trunk,
spread its branches,
increase its height.
Long enough to
be intruded upon
by other growth,
lose some limbs,
gain some scars.
Long enough to
stand where and
like it is
for another day.

Out of Proportion
Out of Proportion
The subject seemed
bigger than it was.
Every part of it
was magnified.
I examined each detail
over and over again
until I realized that
I was the one who
let it get out of
proportion.
