Mourning Dove
Are you watching over me?
Do you have a message
from someone I can't see?
When I wish for comfort,
I know you'll bring it along.
It begins as soon as
I hear your song.

Up, down, up. down
The feather stands and
falls with the
strength of the wind.
As part of a wing,
the feather helped
a body soar.
Detached and alone,
it soars no more.

The Search
Head down, eyes focused
on every inch you cover.
I hope what you're looking for
is worth all you miss
by not giving your head a lift.

The
I landed in
the wrong place.
It wasn't a
mistake, just fate.
So, I float
in a lake.
Hope to reach
shore, but know
I could be
in hot water.
This is a persona poem.

Transient Beauty
Snow coats the hillside.
Decorates the brush
near the lake's edge.
The scene is reflected
in the water.
A sign that the
temperature has risen.
This transient beauty
will soon be gone.

Thanks to the Sun
The ice is bright
thanks to the sun.
Shows off its
cracks and scratches.
Water sits at one side.
The meltdown has begun
thanks to the sun.

Take a Seat
I take a seat
beside the lake
and wait.
I see landings
and takeoffs,
swimmers and divers.
Floaters that belong
in the water, and
ones that don't.
Close to shore,
I find myself
on the water.
Upside down, but
still in my seat.

Stand Close Together
We stand close together,
but lean different ways.
I listen to you, and
you listen to me.
We speak to
one another respectfully.
When the discussion is done,
we still stand close together.
