Time to Swim

The ducklings sit near shore and

take in the vastness of the lake.

How deep is it? How wide?

Will they make it to the other side?

Despite their fears, they begin to paddle.

They know it is time for them to swim.

In a Fog

Like a cloud

with acrophobia,

the fog sits close

to the ground.

Our eyes search

for the everyday

sights we take

for granted--

a stop sign,

a street light,

the road ahead.

We will not

see them again

until the fog

conquers its fear

and begins to lift.
