On Their Own

On Their Own

Out on their own.

How they had grown.

Were ready to roam

to places unknown.

Found a new home

in another time zone.

Left the old one on its own.

Meant To Be

Meant To Be

I've grown all I can here.

Time to enter a new phase.

Leave the only home I've known.

Settle in a different place.

I need some help to get there,

wherever there may be.

So, I cast my fate to the wind.

Where I land is meant for me.

Memories Bloom

Memories Bloom

The orange blossoms
have special meaning to me.
They bring back thoughts of
family and a past home.
Memories bloom at first sight.

The form of this poem is a waka.

"Be Home Before the Streetlights Come On"

"Be Home Before the Streetlights Come On"

I'd head out to play
after dinner with
that mandate running
through my mind.
I'd join in the game
of the night--hide
and seek or tag,
catch or kickball.
My friends and I
could see time slip
away as the sun
crept down and
the natural light
grew dimmer.
As all around us
turned gray, we
would stop play
then begin to
make our way
home before the
streetlights came on.

The prompt for Day 20 of the PAD Challenge--Dark. It's hard to believe we are in the homestretch of the challenge.
