Neighbors
Neighbors
The buildings are neighbors.
They are different sizes,
shapes and colors.
Yet, the times when
their reflections appear
on each other, they
become
hard to tell apart.

Unraveled
Unraveled
The rope has unraveled.
I remember when it was new,
tightly woven and strong.
I'm grateful for all it held for me.
Now, it sits in the sand,
strands spread in all directions.
It has come apart, and
I can't fix it.

When the Light is Blocked
When the Light is Blocked
When the light is blocked,
a shadow is cast.
We don't know how
long it will last.
Remember,
the light is there,
working its way past
the obstruction.

Stillness
Stillness
There is a beauty
stillness offers
that motion can't.
A presence that endures.
Clarity instead of blurs.
The length of time
we have to gaze upon it
rests with us.

Hung Up
Hung Up
I never thought this
could happen to me.
The breeze was strong.
My string was taught.
Now, look at me.
Tangled in the branches,
nearly torn apart.
Abandoned, my
only comfort is
the touch of the wind.

Illusion
Illusion
I stare at the face
as it stares at me.
In reality, I am
looking at a tree.
There is no face,
but it's all that
I can see.

The Winding Staircase
The Winding Staircase
The winding staircase
is deceptive.
Its short segments
look easy to conquer.
I run down and around,
down and around, down...
I am so dizzy when
I reach the ground,
I must wait before
I can go on.

Out of Place
Out of Place
The petal was out of place again.
It loved to turn toward the sun
and let the wind lift it up.
"Why can't you stay in line?"
the flower asked for the 100th time.
" I am not a soldier who stands
in formation," the petal answered.
"I was made to move around
and I will not be tied down."
