Another Fall

Another Fall

I first think of the leaves
as they change color,
then drift down.
Trees once full are now bare.
So much is lost.

But, there is another fall.

Pods grow and fill with seeds.
They burst open and let
their contents go.
Ground now bare
will be filled with
blossoms in spring.
So much is still to come.

Grow in the Stillness

Grow in the Stillness

Sometimes, I don't go far.
The wind behind me dies down.
I don't worry.
I will grow in the stillness.

Late Show

Late Show

Ripples in the water
caused by raindrops,
which fell from leaves
that served as rest stops.

The storm came through
a few hours ago.
But, the drops left behind
put on a late show.

Fall Approaches

Fall Approaches

The leaves are fully green,
tightly attached,
surrounded by companions.
How many days
will they remain so?
When will the red, yellow
or orange overtake them?
When will they lose touch?
When will they leave the tree
to bear winter on its own?

Two Sides

Two Sides

The tops of the
butterfly's wings
are rich in color.
Hold bold designs
that grab our attention.

But, the wings have
another side.
Subtle colors,
muted markings
yield a lighter beauty.

Differences are a natural
part of the whole.

Grounded

Grounded

Fallen feather
tangled in grass.
Wind gust
gives it a lift.
Not enough
to let it fly.

Suspended

Suspended

The leaf dances in midair.
Detached from its branch,
but unable to reach the ground.
It is caught in a web.
Can't free itself.
Remains suspended until
a random force drags it down.

Reflections on a Playground

Reflections on a Playground

A place to have fun,
spin, slide, run around.

You can push your friends,
but only when they're on a swing.

And, you can climb,
perhaps, higher than you've ever been.
