The Bee and The Butterfly

The Bee and the Butterfly

The bee and the butterfly
sit atop a sedum.

The bee is:
always dressed
in gold and black,
known for its work ethic,
making noise,
moving in a manic state.

The butterfly:
comes in many colors,
symbolizes beauty and
dramatic change,
moves quietly, with
infinite grace.

When the two
meet on a flower,
they find a way
to share the space.

Do you like to look for interesting combinations in nature? Do you write about them?

Wind Blown

Wind Blown

Oh, wind, what art
do you create
for us today?

Do you lift
the branches and
make them dance?

Do you pile leaves
in the seam where
one step meets another, or

paint our faces red
as we walk with you?

Do you think wind is creative or only destructive?

Breakthrough

Breakthrough

Type at a furious pace.
The words flow faster
than the fingers find
the keys.
The key is to capture
the concept as concisely
as possible.
The possibilities
represent plots of
all types.
Type at a furious pace.

This is another poem written from a #FlaFiWriMo prompt. (See En Plein Air). The first and last lines are a phrase chosen randomly from a book. Have you ever created a prompt that way?

En Plein Air

En Plein Air

The easel is set up on the grass,
near a clearing in the woods.
Here, the trees the artist paints
are called birches. They are lithe,
like runners, not bulky weight
lifters who have spent too much
time at the gym. Their bark is
gleaming white, bright, as though
the forest fairies have just given
it a cleaning. The crazy quilt of
black spots on the trunks create
a stark contrast. Suddenly, the
painter is overcome by nausea
due to a strong but familiar
stench--skunk. The artist sighs
and shakes her head. Even in
the forest, there are critics.

This piece was written as part of the Wordsmith Studio Flash Fiction Writing Month Challenge. The prompt was to use each of the words that I have underlined in the piece, which I'm calling a flash fiction prose poem. There are plenty pf days left in the challenge if you want to join in. You will find the prompts on Twitter by using #FlaFiWriMo or #wschat and on the Wordsmith Studio Facebook Page.

Every Tuesday night, we chat about writing on Twitter at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Eastern time using #wschat. Bring questions, answers, news or give or ask for support.

The Average Day

The Average Day

Day breaks.
Colors splinter
the sky, catch
the eyes of those
who rise early.

Night falls.
The sun drops.
Darkness descends,
brings day to
an end.

What breaks and
falls do we  face
in between?

How is your day? Have you found something to write about?

Frozen Out

 Frozen Out

The words floated
in my head.
I called them
each by name, but
they didn't respond.
I waited for them to
come out and play
but they wouldn't.
I left them, unwritten
for now, to talk
among themselves.

What do you do when the words freeze you out?

Another Ground Hog Day

Another Ground Hog Day

Another Ground Hog Day
has passed.
Punxsutawney Phil says
 spring's the thing this year.
I always have wondered
why hopes of spring are sprung
when he doesn't see his shadow.
He comes out of his burrow
greeted by a sunless day,
which is probably also cold
and thinks, "Spring is almost here!"
What kind of logic is that, Phil?
Have you ever thought of
running for President?

Do you use humor in your writing?

Wordsmith Studio is doing a flash fiction challenge during the month of February. Daily prompts are available on Twitter at #FlaFiWriMo and #wschat or on the Wordsmith Studio Facebook page.

Parenthesis

Parenthesis

You identify the
additional not
the essential,
that which may be
removed but leaves
what is left complete.
If only all losses
were that way.

Do you see look-alikes in nature? Do you write about them?
