Dear 2021

Dear 2021

I am wary.
I can't celebrate
you as a whole.
Look too far
down the road.

The old year threw
a sucker punch that
landed everywhere,
put us on the ropes,
took our breath away.

So, I need to
celebrate day-by-day
with a smile in
the morning and a
thank you at night.

Then, on your
Dec. 31st, I'll look
back on
all the days.
I hope I will
be
sad to see you go.

Happy New Year! Thank you for reading poetry for another year.

Shattering

Shattering

When all is
shattering around you,
watch as the
sun breaks through.

Sto Lat

Sto Lat

The shot glasses
are filled  with
Krupnik, a honey liqueur.

We hold them high
and sing out
"Sto Lat"--good fortune.

A quick tilt of
the glass empties it.
I set mine down, and

 look around the room at
the good fortune
that surrounds me.

Christmas and Holiday greetings! Thank you for reading and stay safe.

Tentative Connections

Tentative Connections

Like a shadow that
touches two trees,
my connections
are tentative.
Batteries run down.
Signals are dropped.
I am virtually frustrated.

I have no choice
but to stay online
until, once again,
I can reach out
under my own power.

Another Day

Another Day

Part of it is prickly
Part of it's a ball
Sometimes it is smooth
Sometimes it is rough
No matter how it goes
 I'm grateful for another day

When The Clouds Appear

When The Clouds Appear

I don't look for signs
of rain or snow.
I see the hills and valleys,
a pair of eyes looking
out above a mask,
and a large animal,
perhaps a wildcat.
I take a moment
to let my imagination
float by.

A Winter Day

A Winter Day

Snow falls, falls
on the ground. Ground
by the soles of boots. Boots
slip and people fall. Fall
into the snow. Snow
coats coats.

This form is called echo verse.

Unexpected Falls

Unexpected Falls

I am as comfortable
with the leaves on
the ground as I am
with them on the trees.

There are times I am
surprised to see what
else sits among them.
The results of
unexpected falls.

Questions

 Questions

The questions weigh me down.
Who can be trusted
and who can't be?
What can I see
and what can't I see?
Will I return to normal
or will normal be new?
Will I find answers
or only more questions?

Shadows on the Trees

Shadows on the Trees

Shadows cling to the trees.
Run up and down, wrap
around and around.
Temporary tattoos
that dress the
trunks and branches.
They are easily removed
as the sun moves.
